Over the course of the semester, you need to attend ONE concert and turn in a 1 ½ to 2 page concert report (typed, 12 point font, normal margins, double-spaced) for the concert. It is your job to remember to do this – you must take initiative for going to a concert and writing a report! It must be a choral concert (a group of people singing), middle-school age or older. All concerts must be from an approved list (see bulletin board or website), or pre-approved by Mrs. Spencer. With the report, you must turn in a ticket or program from the event. You must also turn in the concert report within 2 weeks of the concert date (so you don’t forget details!). Let me know if you have any issues with attending a concert for this project.
The paper needs to be a respectful critique. For example, rather than saying “I didn’t like the sopranos squeaky voices,” say “The sopranos sound could have been improved if there was more openness to their tone and more breath support.” You must also support all reasoning. You cannot just say “I didn’t like that song,” you must give musical reasons why you didn’t like it. We will go over more examples of this writing style in class.
Your concert report is due by the end of each semester.
